Living Waters started in 1997 as a way for people to help themselves.  Our mission is to help eliminate illiteracy and violence, and to restore dignity in our community.  This dream is considerable and has powerful implications for South Africa’s future generations.

Living Waters’ humble beginnings was a handful of ordinary, concerned citizens who had an extraordinary vision for the Eastern Cape to be vibrant and whole.  These volunteers pooled their resources and started serving hot soup and bread to our homeless.  This small ‘army’ believed that each person needed to be valued in order to make our society stronger as a whole.

We realized, however, that simply feeding people was not a long-term solution.  So we began teaching life-skills and job-skills to help people gain a sustainable income.  Living Waters then launched safe houses to help abused women and children from across our nation.  We developed creative partnerships, including providing bursary programs tailored to meet the unique needs of hundreds of under-privileged school children.

Over the past twelve years, Living Waters has established itself as a reputable organization.  We continue to expand.  After all, we have a big dream! In our active fight against the evils that threaten to unravel the fabric of our society, we are preparing to launch a one stop crisis center in 2010—a one-stop sexual assault centre that will be manned 24/7 by highly trained police, medical and counseling personnel.
